Top Ten – Dog of the Year – CFC Royal
Official regulations of the annual “Top Ten – Dog of the Year” competition, organised by Club Federal Chinologic – Royal, in accordance with the Official Regulations for Beauty Shows recognised by the World Dog Federation (WDF).
Art. 1 – The purpose and nature of the competition
(1) These regulations establish the rules for organising and conducting the annual “TOP TEN - DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” competition.
(2) The competition aims to award the dogs with the most valuable show record within a calendar year, without altering the judging procedures or the champion titles established in the Official Regulations for Beauty Shows recognised by the World Dog Federation (WDF). (3) The ranking is of a superimposed type: it is based exclusively on the results obtained in beauty shows organised or recognised by CFC Royal and does not influence the award of the CAJC, CAC, CACIB titles or the champion titles provided for in the official WDF regulations.
Art. 2 – Scope of application
(1) In the “TOP TEN - DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” competition, only the results obtained in national and international beauty shows organised or recognised by CFC Royal are taken into account, in which CAJC, CAC, CACIB, BOB, JBOB, BBR and Best in Show are awarded, according to the structure and principles provided for in articles 3, 8–12 and 39 of the Official Regulations for Beauty Shows recognised by WDF.
(2) Results obtained in other international or national cynological systems, outside the shows held under the aegis of CFC Royal, are not taken into consideration in the calculation of scores for this competition.
Art. 3 – Eligibility of dogs
(1) All dogs which cumulatively meet the following conditions may participate in the “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” competition:
a) they hold a pedigree issued or recognised by a national association affiliated to any international cynological federation;
b) the pedigree or register of origin is recognised by CFC Royal, in accordance with the principles for recognising registers used in the WDF system, or, in the case of registration in its own registers, the dog has passed a phenotypic recognition similar to that provided for in art. 4 and 14 of the WDF regulations;
c) they have been presented in CFC Royal beauty shows, in the classes provided for in art. 13 of the WDF regulations.
(2) The classes eligible for the calculation of scores are:
a) Very Young and Young (for CAJC and JBOB type results);
b) Intermediate, Open, Working, Winner, Champion, Foreign Champions (for CAJC, CAC, CACIB, BOB, BBR, category BIS and Best in Show);
c) Veteran (for BOB Veteran and BIS Veteran).
(3) The Baby and Puppy classes do not generate points through CAJC/CAC/CACIB titles, but the Best in Show Puppies awards may be scored, according to art. 6, following the organisational model provided for in the WDF regulations.
Art. 4 – The reference period and the number of shows taken into account
(1) The competition runs over the course of a calendar year, the eligible results being those obtained between 1 January and 31 December of the reference year.
(2) For each dog entered in the “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” ranking, the annual score is calculated on the basis of the results obtained in a minimum of 3 (three) and a maximum of 6 (six) CFC Royal shows in the respective year.
(3) Where a dog has participated in more than 6 (six) CFC Royal shows in the reference year, only the 6 shows in which it obtained the highest score according to art. 6 are taken into consideration.
(4) Where a dog has participated in fewer than 3 (three) CFC Royal shows in the reference year, it is not eligible for the final ranking, but the results may be mentioned for information purposes in the annual statistics.
Art. 5 – The database and the validation of results
(1) The scores are calculated exclusively on the basis of:
a) the official qualification/results booklet recognised by CFC Royal for each dog;
b) the official catalogues of the shows organised or recognised by CFC Royal;
c) the validation forms for the CAJC, CAC, CACIB, BOB, JBOB, BBR titles and the Best in Show awards, drawn up according to the model provided for in the WDF regulations.
(2) The organisers of CFC Royal shows are obliged to transmit electronically, to the commission responsible for the “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” ranking, the list of relevant results within 30 days of the conclusion of each show.
(3) The Commission verifies the consistency between the data received and the entries in the catalogues and results booklets, before validating the scores, following the verification principles used in the WDF system.
Art. 6 – The scoring system
(1) General principles
a) The score is awarded only for the titles and awards expressly provided for in this article.
b) The base points are attributed to the standard titles used by CFC Royal (CAJC, CAC, CACIB, BOB, JBOB, BBR) and to the Best in Show awards by category, in accordance with the structure of titles and awards in the WDF regulations.
c) A single grid is used, applicable to all CFC Royal shows, with a coefficient depending on the level of the show (national or international), following the model of the WDF shows.
(2) Score for class and breed titles
For each CFC Royal show, the following base points are awarded:
CAJC (Very Young, Young): 3 points;
CAC (Intermediate, Open, Working, Winner, Champion, Foreign Champions): 4 points;
CACIB (only in international shows): 5 points;
JBOB (Best of Breed Junior): 4 points;
BOB (Best of Breed, adults, regardless of class): 6 points;
BBR (Best Breed Representative): 2 points (bonus).
(3) Score for the honour ring (Best in Show)
a) BIS Puppies – 1st place: 5 points;
b) BIS Junior – 1st place: 8 points;
c) BIS Adult – 1st place: 10 points;
d) BIS Champions – 1st place: 10 points;
e) BIS Veterans – 1st place: 6 points;
f) Absolute Best in Show (if a single final BIS is organised): 15 points.
b) For dogs placed 2nd and 3rd in the honour ring, the following are awarded in addition:
-
2nd place in any category BIS or absolute Best in Show: +3 points;
-
3rd place in any category BIS or absolute Best in Show: +1 point.
(Note: the points for 2nd and 3rd places are added to the score corresponding to participation in the respective BIS, without additional coefficients.)
(4) The show level coefficient
a) CFC Royal national show: coefficient 1.0;
b) CFC Royal international show: coefficient 1.5.
The formula for calculating the points for each result is:
Final points for a result = Base points × The show coefficient.

Art. 7 – The calculation of the annual score
(1) For each eligible dog, the final points obtained in the CFC Royal shows in which it participated in the reference year are added up, according to art. 6, in compliance with the limits in art. 4. (2) If a dog has participated in more than 6 (six) CFC Royal shows, the commission takes into account only the 6 shows with the highest total score for that dog. (3) If a dog has participated in fewer than 3 (three) CFC Royal shows, no official score is calculated for the ranking, but the results may be recorded statistically. (4) The annual score is unique, regardless of the class or age category in which the results were obtained (junior, adult, veteran); a single general ranking “TOP TEN - DOG OF THE YEAR - CFC Royal” is drawn up.
Art. 8 – The “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” ranking
(1) On the basis of the annual score, the CFC Royal commission draws up a general descending ranking of all eligible dogs.
(2) The first 10 dogs in the ranking constitute the “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal”. (3) The dog placed 1st receives the honorary title: “DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal”, accompanied by a diploma and/or a special trophy.
(4) At the discretion of CFC Royal, the following may also be published for information purposes: a) the dog with the highest score obtained predominantly from CAJC/JBOB/BIS Junior (best junior of the year);
b) the dog with the highest score obtained predominantly from BOB Veteran/BIS Veteran (best veteran of the year).
Art. 9 – Ties, changes of ownership and sanctions
(1) In the case of a tie in points between two or more dogs, tie-breaking is carried out, in order: a) by the higher number of BOB titles obtained in the reference year; c) by the higher number of CFC Royal international shows in which the dog obtained points; d) if the tie persists, an ex aequo may be declared or an additional criterion may be established by decision of the CFC Royal commission.
(2) A change of the dog’s owner during the year does not affect the score; the points remain attached to the dog. In the official lists, both the initial owner and the current owner may be mentioned, the provisions of art. 15 of the WDF regulations regarding the ownership of dogs entered in a show being applied by analogy.
(3) Where a dog is sanctioned, suspended or permanently disqualified for acts of a disciplinary nature, CFC Royal may decide on the partial or total cancellation of the points accumulated in the reference year, by reference to the situations of exclusion and indiscipline provided for in art. 16 and 34–36 of the WDF regulations.
Art. 10 – Final provisions
(1) These regulations were drawn up on the basis of the Official Regulations for Beauty Shows recognised by the World Dog Federation (WDF), adapted to the competitive structure of CFC Royal, without altering the basic principles regarding the welfare of dogs, the organisation of shows, the entry classes and the champion titles.
(2) In the event of a conflict of interpretation between these regulations and the general regulations for beauty shows recognised by WDF, CFC Royal will apply with priority the WDF norms, adapted to its internal framework, to the extent of compatibility.
(3) Any modification of the scoring grid, the coefficients or the minimum and maximum show conditions (art. 4 and 6) is made by decision of the governing bodies of CFC Royal and enters into force on 1 January of the year following its adoption.
(4) The “TOP TEN DOG OF THE YEAR – CFC Royal” competition may be suspended or resumed by decision of the governing bodies of CFC Royal, depending on the show context and organisational needs, in compliance with the general principles enshrined in the WDF regulations.
