The concrete difference between BOB and BBR

Category
Titles

1. DEFINITION AND PURPOSE

BOB – Best of Breed

The best adult/champion specimen of the breed.

BOB designates the best male and the best female among:

  • Intermediate
  • Open
  • Working
  • Winner
  • Champion
  • Foreign Champions

BOB is the main title for the respective breed.

It is mandatory at a WDF show.

BBR – Best Breed Representative

The most representative specimen of the breed
(chosen through a comparison between Junior, Adult and Champion)

BBR is an additional competition, applied only if the organizer includes it.

It is a distinction of breed typicality, not a title required for BIS, CAC, CAJC, etc.

BBR is not mandatory and does not exist at all shows.

2. WHO COMPETES FOR THE TITLE

Only ADULTS and CHAMPIONS compete for BOB:

  • Intermediate
  • Open
  • Working
  • Winner
  • Champion
  • Foreign Champions

Juniors do NOT compete for BOB.

The category winners compete for BBR:

  1. JBOB (the winning Junior)
  2. The winning Adult (from Intermediate + Open + Working)
  3. The winning Champion (Winner + Champion + Foreign Champions)

So BBR is a three-way competition, between winners.

3. EFFECTS AND RIGHTS OBTAINED

The BOB title grants:

✔ access to the category BIS (Best in Show)

  • BIS Adult
    or
  • BIS Champions

It is an official title that counts in the show path.

The BBR title does NOT grant access to BIS

It is clear in Art. 12:

„This title does not affect BIS.”

So it does not bring:

  • points for championships
  • qualifications for higher stages
  • access to the BIS ring

It is merely a prestige title internal to the breed.

4. MANDATORY STATUS

BOB = mandatory

It must be awarded at all WDF shows.

BBR = optional

It may be offered only:

  • if the organizer includes it in the program
  • if the judge considers it relevant

5. THE MOMENT OF AWARDING

BOB

It is determined during the breed judging, before the start of BIS.

BBR

It is awarded after the following have been determined:

  • JBOB
  • BOB Adult
  • BOB Champions

Being a comparison between winners.

6. THE MANDATORY PRESENCE IN BIS

BOB → mandatory in BIS

The BOB winners (M + F) must go to the honor ring.

BBR → does not take part in BIS

Regardless of the winner.

7. MAIN JUDGING CRITERION

BOB = the best ADULT/CHAMPION specimen of the breed on the respective day

Emphasis on:

  • structure
  • movement
  • presentation
  • typicality
  • overall quality

BBR = the most representative specimen of the breed among Junior, Adult, Champion

Emphasis on:

  • typicality
  • the overall appearance of the breed
  • potential (includes Juniors)

BOB focuses on current value, BBR on overall typicality (a more „theoretical” image of the breed).
