Official procedure for awarding the JBOB title (Best of Breed Junior)

Category
Titles

The JBOB title represents the “Best Junior specimen of the breed” and grants access to BIS Junior.

1. Classes eligible for JBOB

JBOB may be attributed exclusively from:

✔ Very Young (9–12 months)

✔ Young (12–18 months)

In accordance with Art. 11:

“The Very Young and Young classes will enter the play-off for the awarding of Best of Breed Junior.”

⚠ The Baby and Puppy classes do NOT take part in JBOB.

2. Minimum conditions for competing for JBOB

In order to enter the play-off for JBOB, the dog must:

✔ have received the grade Excellent 1 in its class

✔ be the winner of the Very Young or Young class

✔ belong to a breed recognized by WDF

✔ be present at the judge’s call

3. The ring procedure for establishing JBOB

The procedure is very clear:

STAGE 1 — Individual judging of the Very Young and Young classes

The judge:

  1. assesses all the dogs, males and females, separately
  2. awards grades
  3. establishes the winner of each class (Excellent 1)

The following are chosen:

  • The best Very Young Male
  • The best Young Male
  • The best Very Young Female
  • The best Young Female

STAGE 2 — Internal play-off by sex

➤ Among males

The judge compares:

  • the winner of the Very Young class (male)
    with
  • the winner of the Young class (male)

→ The victor becomes: JBOB Male

➤ Among females

Likewise:

  • the winner of the Very Young class (female)
    with
  • the winner of the Young class (female)

→ The victor becomes: JBOB Female

STAGE 3 — Declaration of the JBOB title

The judge:

✔ awards the JBOB Male title

✔ awards the JBOB Female title

Note: these are two distinct titles, just like BOB.

4. The right of access to BIS Junior

In accordance with Article 11:

“…and subsequently admission to BIS Junior.”

JBOB Male and JBOB Female go directly into the Best in Show Junior competition.

5. The role of the judge

The judge has full authority:

  • may decide not to award JBOB if no dog is at the required level
  • may withhold the title even if the dogs have the grade Excellent 1
  • may stop the competition in case of irregularities (double calls, infractions)

6. The qualification booklet requirement

For validation:

✔ the title is recorded in the WDF Qualification Booklet

✔ it is approved by the secretariat on the same day

If the winner does not have the booklet, then:
➡ JBOB is transferred to the next dog in the placement with Excellent 2 (if the local regulations allow, exactly as for CAJC).

7. Practical summary (JBOB CHECKLIST)

✔ Eligible classes: Very Young & Young

✔ 1 male + 1 female in the play-off

✔ The class winners with Excellent 1 enter the comparison

✔ The judge compares Very Young vs. Young

✔ Decides JBOB Male and JBOB Female

✔ The title is discretionary

✔ Both titles go into BIS Junior

✔ The secretariat validates it on the same day
