Official procedure for awarding the BBR title
(Best Breed Representative – “The best representative of the breed”)
The BBR title is a special distinction awarded only within the breed, through a comparison between the main winners of the various categories, and it does NOT affect access to Best in Show.
1. The purpose of the BBR title
Pursuant to Art. 12:
„This title does not affect BIS, but is awarded as a comparative competition for the breed.”
Therefore:
- it is an additional distinction,
- a kind of internal „super-BOB” of the breed,
- awarded only at shows that opt for this title.
2. Who may compete for BBR?
Only the dogs already declared winners of their category, namely:
✔ the winner of the Juniors (JBOB / Best Junior)
✔ the winner of the Adults (the best among Intermediate + Open + Working)
✔ the winner of the Champions (the best among Winner + Champion + Foreign Champions)
Pursuant to Art. 12:
„BBR is awarded in a direct comparison between:
– the best Very Young and Young,
– the best Intermediate, Open and Working,
– the best Winner, Champion and Foreign Champion.”
Note: “Very Young and Young” = the winner of the Juniors → JBOB.
3. The technical procedure in the ring for determining BBR
The procedure is simple and has a single final play-off:
STAGE 1 — The three eligible dogs are selected
The judge chooses 3 representatives of the breed, already determined earlier through judging:
- The Juniors’ representative – JBOB Male or Female (depending on sex)
- The Adults’ representative – the winner of category A
- The Champions’ representative – the winner of category B
⚠ BBR is awarded separately for males and females, exactly like BOB.
STAGE 2 — Final three-way play-off
The judge places the three dogs in the ring:
- the winning Junior
- the winning Adult
- the winning Champion
Then:
✔ compares all three simultaneously
✔ decides which dog best represents the breed
✔ announces the winner JBR = Best Breed Representative
4. The characteristics of judging at BBR
The title is awarded solely on the basis of:
- breed typicality,
- conformation,
- movement,
- overall balance,
- expression,
- the overall impression in relation to the WDF standard.
It is a purely qualitative comparison, with no requirement for scoring or additional justifications.
5. What does NOT affect BBR
The regulation states clearly:
❌ BBR does NOT affect qualification for BIS
❌ BBR does NOT grant CAJC / CAC / CACIB certificates
❌ BBR does NOT change class results
❌ BBR is NOT required for championship titles
6. When is BBR awarded?
- BBR is not mandatory at all shows.
- It is an option of the organizer or the judge, depending on the local regulation and the format of the show.
7. Practical summary (BBR CHECKLIST)
